Hilton Head Ice Cream, Inc. opened on Friday, August 13, 1982. It was the first micro-creamery in the low country.

The company has received accolades from CNN, Warner Books, Southern Living and has been voted the Best of Hilton Head every time a local media poll is tallied. Even the U.S. Ambassador to Great Britain has touted Hilton Head Ice Cream.

Creegan Edmonds, founder, created many new flavors: Girl Scout Cookie, Flower Power, Mocha Pecan, and Banana’s Foster.

“We had to explain the name of our first flavor,” says Creegan. “It was called Espresso. Not many people had heard that word.” Adding, “We still make flavors nobody has ever heard of.” “We are imitated but never duplicated!” says Edmonds.

“Salt air is our secret ingredient. There is love in each batch, too. Most ice cream is 50% air and made in industrial towns. Who wants to eat acid rain?” Edmonds smiles.
